Border Wetland Excursion

Tin Shui Wai was once a mosaic of fish ponds. In 1982, the Government and a private developer reached a joint venture agreement to proceed with an urban development in Tin Shui Wai. The first residential development was materialised in 1993.

The Hong Kong Wetland Part (HKWP) situates at the Northern part of Tin Shui Wai Town. The park and the surrounding designated special area is proposed as a replacement habitat for the wetland lost from the engineering work in the town and to act as a buffer to minimize human disturbance to the ecological sensitive areas of Inner Deep Bay Special Site of Scientific Interest, the adjoining fish ponds, and Mai Po Nature Reserve. to its east and north-east which has been designated as a Ramsar Site.
